About

Hi, I'm Heitor Chang, also known as Hector, Ettore, Ἕκτωρ, ou 張大正, depending on the language I was speaking at the moment.

I am an avid student of symbols and languages, born in São Paulo and educated at Chapel School until eighth grade. I continued my studies in the United States at the Webb Schools, Stanford University, and New York University.

My native languages are English and Portuguese, and I was younger than ten when I taught myself how to read Egyptian hieroglyphics and the Japanese syllabaries, hiragana and katakana.

At nine, I learned Spanish in Iquique, Chile for about a year, reaching a level where I became the best student of my class in American College.

At the Webb Schools, I studied French with Dr. Richard A. Hartzell, a wise Superman. I studied the last major Romance language, Italian, at Stanford University with the wonderful Marta Baldocchi and Sara Gelmetti. I also dared to take ancient and modern Greek courses.

Finally, I spent six months in Taipei, learning Mandarin at the National Taiwan Normal University, and stumbled upon Gwoyeu Romatzyh, a system that made tone learning much easier for me.

Having the privilege of speaking both American English and Brazilian Portuguese fluently, I am now putting together my knowledge of both languages to develop my teaching methods.
